New Year’s Day Concert    Friday,1 January 2016    2.15 pm

A full cathedral welcomed in the New Year with the John S Davies Singers. This 25 year tradition is now a firm fixture for many and the audience was not disappointed.The programme moved seamlessly from Christmas to Epiphany.The John S Davies singers provided the listener with the best of Handel and Bach along with Whitacre and Herbert Howells. Welsh composers are championed by John S Davies and a specially written composition for the occasion by Eric Jones – Puer Natus in Bethlehem – was well received and in the presence of the composer. The recessional Epiphany hymn ‘As with gladness men of old’ closed the concert. The audience left feeling uplifted and energized. Appreciative comments following the concert included  “an excellent event in a delightful setting”……. ” we both felt it was one of the finest performances of choral music we have ever attended.”
