Posted in the Concert Reports Category
The John S Davies Singers, in their celebratory 40th anniversary year, performed this time at Y Tabernacl, St Davids.
The welcoming venue proved to be a great success in that with some audience participation in hymn singing the lovely
chapel building lent itself to the occasion. The 300 years of William Williams, Pantycelyn was also celebrated on this
evening with a performance of ‘Emynau Pantycelyn’ by Alun Hoddinott with soloist Steffan Jones.
This was a concert providing a carefully prepared and captivating programme with the emphasis on musical detail and nuance.
One could feel the closeness and appreciation of the audience and their singing of three hymns with the Singers added a
slight ‘Cymanfa’ twist to the evening. Blaenwern, arranged by the concert organist Meirion Wynn Jones, was enjoyed by all
and the Singers closed the concert with the moving ‘Deep Peace’ by John Rutter.
